Manuscript, in a single hand with some corrections, of a collection of about 24 entries of original verse and prose. Many of the poems are occasional verses for friends and family members, including one on the anniversary of his wedding day, dated March 6, 1813; several on his wife Martha's birthday; two valentines addressed to friends; one on the sudden death of Mr. Whitbread; and another on a "dreadful storm which happened on the 12th continuing to rage violently for many days during my passage from Barbadoes on the Atlantic Ocean." The prose pieces in the volume are primarily religious or philosophical, and include one annotated "an allegorical representation of human life"; another titled The Jew's plea; and the copy of a letter to the author's cousin on the state of his soul.
